Where Do Transgender Women Holiday?
West Hollywood Of Course!
This is a city where over a-third of the population identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) and is well known to folk in the Los Angeles area, drawing many tourists from all over California. But it has not been a major national or international destination.
In a campaign to boost revenue, the city is seeking to expand its market. Why? Even in a slumping economy, LGBT tourists tend to have more disposable income and are more likely to spend it on travel and leisure than heterosexual tourists.
Over the past few years, other American cities such as Philadelphia, Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Bloomington, have initiated campaigns to woo LGBT tourists.
The LGBT travel segment is so hot that American Airlines, and some other large companies, have appointed a marketing manager whose job is to market to and attract the LBGT travelers.
West Hollywood’s latest marketing initiative is the launch of its travel website GoGayWestHollywood.com which has a lists of hotels, clubs, bars and night time happenings that the visitors bureau thinks would appeal to gay and lesbian bisexual and transgender tourists.
